Hi Heidi

I've not heard of that. Terms for these things change from country to country so just explain what you want the materials for and a competent store assistant should be able to guide you in what is suitable and what the advantages and disadvantages are with each choice in fabrics and filling.

[...] When choosing a patio furniture replacement cushion make sure you measure your furniture first. You will find patio cushions comes come in many standard sizes but you have to get the right standard size so that the cushion can be secured to the chair with ties and is not slipping all over the place. If your patio furniture is not in a standard size then you can look for custom cushions which are available from a number of sites. They are a little more expensive but worth it to get a good fit.
Hi Christine

you should be able to get patio chair cushion covers online if you do a search on Google. The problem will be trying to get an exact fit if you go for standard covers. If you choose custom covers on the other hand you might find it cheaper to get new cushions altogether. If you're handy with a needle you can make your own covers but it's beyond my skill level I have to admit as the special water and fade resistant patio cushion fabric is quite stiff and difficult to work with.

AJ, Now I'm completely puzzled about how your patio cushions look :) An upholsterer may still be able to help you. In any case, do you need to replace those plastic parts to make replacement cushions or could you remove the covers and use the inner parts of the cushions and recover them?

I am sorry, I think I mislead u. The whole unit is all plastic. and the male side snaps into the female side then it is a one piece thing that is extended out 2 inches. I wish I could get a clear picture of it and e-mail it to u.
Thanks, AJ.

Hi AJ,

these buttons on your patio cushions sound like the type of covered buttons I used to make in sewing class but then they were small and made of metal You covered the outer part in fabric and then used the inner part to fix the fabric in place. I'm not sure what you mean by 2" thick because that seems huge for a button. I think your best bet is to ask a local upholsterer about them as they are bound to know what these are and may be able to supply them too. Good luck with renovating your outdoor cushions. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on?

I am trying to find replacement buttons for my outdoor cushions. It looks to be a 2 pc plastic button, that snaps together. I have tried to seperate the old one and they will not come appart. I orignially bought the coushion through a high end furniture store. No longer can afford that so I am going to make my own. These 2 pc buttons are about 2" thick (meaning they expand about 2"). Please help anyone.

Hi Deborah

You might find piping for your patio cushions in the haberdashery department of large department stores or call a few shops which do normal upholstery and see if they have something suitable they could sell you.

If all else fails do a search online for piping for patio cushions or piping supplies for upholstery.

I hope you find what you are looking for because piping gives patio cushions the edge (literally!) over non-piped cushions.
